High School Program
HPS PREP SCHOOL offers a four-year high school program. Transfer students are welcome. Evaluation of previous work is available. An extra fee is charged for this service.
REQUIREMENTS
A high school student who completes work with HPS PREP SCHOOL should have a minimum of 25 credits. Each credit equals approximately 180 hours of study. To receive a diploma from HPS, students must complete the following requirements:
| English | 4 | |
| Social Studies | 3 | (recommend four), includes half a unit of state history |
| Mathematics | 2 | (three for college bound) |
| Science | 2 | (recommend three or four) |
| Living Skills | 1 | (recommend two) |
| Physical Education | 2 | |
| Health | .5 | |
| Keyboarding | 1 | |
| Also recommended: | ||
| Bible | 2 | (minimum of .5 unit each year) |
| Computer Literacy | 1 | |
| Foreign Language | 2 | (for college bound) |
This comes to a total of 20.5 required and recommended credits, with the rest made up of electives and other recommended courses. In addition, students must demonstrate basic competency by achieving a satisfactory score on an achievement test (SAT, ACT, GED) or other.
While some states and some programs require fewer credits, we find students who complete the 25 credits are better equipped and more able to meet college entrance requirements as well as more prepared for life.
Students take some half-credit subjects such as physical education, two or three times weekly (20-25 hours). Other subjects that fall under this category are:

Work experience is an elective, for which partial credit is given (5 hours per week = half-credit). A maximum of two credits of work experience may apply towards the 25 credits required for a diploma.
