Implimentation

CLASS LOAD: From past experience we have found it best to limit first year students to a maximum of 6-7 credits. In order for a student to take more than 6 credits during a school year, the student must maintain a B average or higher (see tuition).

LESSONS: We encourage students not to think of school as book work. Use books as resources from which to gain information to prove through experimentation. Homeschool has the advantage over traditional school because the world is at your fingertips to experience learning through activity. The lesson plans (journal or record of activities) reflect these valid informal experiences and are considered a formal part of a school day.

TEXTBOOKS: It is the goal of HPS PREP SCHOOL to recommend curriculum materials for the high school student in harmony with Christian principles. It is important for the parent-teacher to use their wisdom in presenting controversial topics and issues. We solicit your comments and feedback.

FLEXIBILITY: Although you may use textbooks other than our recommendations, we require that you follow our syllabi in all classes where they are available. You may adapt other textbooks to our syllabi to ensure that you cover the basic concepts and material. We allow a lot of flexibility--just tell us what you have in mind.

REPORTING: To receive full credit, students must provide HPS PREP SCHOOL with required quarterly reports for each subject. Registered students send us four quarterly reports per school year. Students refer to a syllabus (for most courses) for reporting instructions and material to send. Our teachers evaluate the reports and make helpful comments and suggestions, and assign letter grades. Most of our teacher-counselors have master's degrees and are certified with the State of Washington. In addition, some are certified in other states as well.
